Mathematics: Secondary Mathematics Minor

The Secondary Mathematics Minor offers additional preparation for the teaching of high school mathematics and prepares students to pass the Washington State Mathematics test (NES 304). This minor is intended for individuals who are already seeking/have Washington State teacher certification in another subject area; it is not endorsable on its own. Successfully passing NES 304 allows students to add a test-only endorsement in Secondary Mathematics upon graduating. This minor is not open to students majoring in Mathematics: Secondary Education.

Graduation Requirements
Plan GPA of 2.25. No grade lower than a C in plan required courses.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and productive dispositions in the mathematical areas of: Number and Quantity, Algebra and Functions, Geometry and Measurement, Statistics and Probability, Modeling and Technology, Calculus, and Discrete Mathematics.
  • Develop Mathematical Processes that mathematicians draw on to acquire and use their mathematical knowledge.
