Data Science Minor

The Data Science Minor is designed to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge required to analyze, interpret, and derive actionable insights from data. In today’s data-driven world, the ability to work with large datasets and apply computational techniques to solve complex problems is invaluable across virtually every industry. Upon completion of this minor, students will be prepared to take Society of Actuaries (SOA) Statistics for Risk Modeling (SRM) and Predictive Analytics (PA) exams. This minor is not open to students majoring in Actuarial Science or the Statistical Data Science specialization of the Data Science major.

Graduation Requirements
All courses in the minor must be completed with grades of C or higher.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Choose appropriate statistical models for a given situation and evaluate the performance of those models.
  • Use a modern programming language to implement statistical and data-driven models.
  • Communicate mathematical and statistical information in a way that is appropriate for the intended audience.
