Master of Professional Accountancy

The Master of Professional Accountancy is composed of an accounting core, applied courses, and elective courses. Accounting core courses will deliver the body of knowledge necessary to understand today’s complex data-driven accounting industry. The applied courses will employ skills and theories from core courses to real-life scenarios aimed at preparing students to enter the profession with competence. Elective courses will round the educational experience, rendering it more tailored to the student’s individual interests and needs.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by the time of matriculation or enrollment with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all coursework attempted in at least the last 90 quarter (60 semester) hours of recognized academic work.  
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting Series, the content of which is similar to ACCT 350, 351 and 352, with a C or higher.
  • Completion of one foundation tax course, the content of which is similar to ACCT 303 or 340, with a C or higher.
  • Completion of one foundation auditing course, the content of which is similar to ACCT 460, with a C or higher.
  • Completion of one foundation statistics course, the content of which is similar to BUS 221, with a C or higher.
  • International students must meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement of CWU School of Graduate Studies and Research.

Graduation Requirements
Completion of at least 45 quarter credits with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • assess accounting problems related to financial, managerial, taxation, auditing and data analysis by integrating quantitative methodologies;
  • compose and evaluate reports in compliance with professional standards;
  • formulate data-driven recommendations for optimal tax planning and tax compliance;
  • create and assess analytical tools and models for decision-making, forecasting, and planning;
  • compose strategic plans to execute auditing and assurance engagements by using analytics tools and auditing software; and
  • evaluate and interpret findings and conclusions utilizing data visualization and analytical techniques.
