Program Description
This program prepares candidates to teach a wide variety of courses, including leadership, information technology, marketing, and business law. Most teachers in business and marketing education also become DECA and/or Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) advisors. Because of the high demand for these teachers, graduates of this program have a 100% placement rate. The subjects taught are meaningful, and students in the classes are highly motivated.
Teacher Endorsement
This major partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in Business and Marketing Education/Career and Technical Education, qualifying students to teach all state-approved business and marketing courses at the high school, middle school, or junior high levels. Students who successfully complete the Business and Marketing Education and Secondary Education majors (an alternative to the Professional Education Program) are eligible to apply for Washington state teacher certification. In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.
Program Requirements
To successfully complete this program, students must:
- Complete the Business and Marketing Education major.
- Complete the Teacher Certification Program.
- Students teach in a Washington state CTE-approved program.
- Hold a valid first aid card with CPR.
- Complete 2,000 hours of work experience related to business and/or marketing in the last six years.
- Provide documentation of occupational safety.
Graduation Requirements
Plan GPA of 3.0. No grade lower than a C in courses applied to the major.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- demonstrate professional behavior,
- demonstrate knowledge and skills for teaching Business and Marketing Education,
- utilize varied instructional strategies to ensure the critical thinking skills of students,
- share innovative models and program accomplishments with the profession, and
- develop partnership activities with FBLA, DECA, and Teacher Academies.
