Technology Education Major, BS


The Technology Education program is for individuals who desire to teach a broad range of courses in  technology, engineering and STEM related fields. This major is specifically for candidates seeking to add the Tech Ed. endorsement only, or who are majoring or minoring in another education related program.  All other candidates should select the Tech Ed broad area program.

CWU offers the only Technology Education degree in the state and our graduates are in high-demand.

Teaching Endorsement
This major partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in Technology Education with a CTE certificate qualifying students to teach a wide variety of subjects in industrial and engineering related fields such as woods, metals, CAD, and robotics and many more at the high school, middle, or junior high levels. Students who successfully complete the Technology Education and Secondary Education Program (an alternative to the Professional Education Program) are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification. In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.

The following general education courses are also required in the Technology Education program:

CHEM 111, MATH 153, PHYS 111

Graduation Requirements 
Plan GPA of 2.5. No grade lower than a C- in any course applied to the major.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • demonstrate effective planning, preparation, and delivery of technology education lessons that follow best practices and create an awareness of industry standards
  • acquire knowledge of the components of the design world, with competence in at least one area
  • learn, practice, and demonstrate safety principles as used currently in industry and public schools
  • demonstrate familiarity with the concepts, theoretical perspectives, and historic trends in vocational education and Career and Technology Education
  • be committed to ongoing personal and professional development via participation in student leadership and professional memberships
