This minor prepares students to teach English Language Learners.

Teaching Endorsement
This minor partially satisfies the criteria for an add on teaching endorsement (English Language Learner), qualifying students to teach in classrooms with English Language Learners at the high school, middle/junior high, and elementary levels. Students who successfully complete the Teaching English Language Learner Minor, an endorsement major and Secondary Education Program (an alternative to the Professional Education Program) are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification. In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. Candidates may take EDBL 312: Foundations of Bilingual Education, EDBL 318: Family, Community, and Culture in the Classroom, and/or EDBL 438: Teaching ESL before full admission to Teacher Certification. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.

Non-Certification Option (no Teaching Endorsement)
Students who are not seeking a teaching endorsement may sign and submit a non-certification waiver letter to the department.

Graduation Requirements
Students must maintain a Plan GPA of 3.0. No grade lower than a C in any course applied to the minor.

Program Requirements
Students must complete, or have already completed, one year of study in a foreign or second language or the equivalent (at either the high school or university level).
