Physical Education - Dance: Teaching Minor

Students will be required to complete technique classes in those areas of dance frequently taught in a K-12 setting. Additionally, students will develop competencies in dance composition and choreography, rhythmic concepts, dance production, and teaching.

Teaching Endorsement
This minor partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in Dance, qualifying students to teach dance in preschool through high school levels. Students who successfully complete this minor, an endorsement major, and the Secondary Education Program or Elementary Education Major (alternatives to the Professional Education Program) are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification.  In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.

Non-Certification Option
A student may complete this minor without gaining entry to the Teacher Certification Program or completing the Professional Education Program or alternative. Under such circumstances a teacher certification endorsement in Dance will not be granted. This option exists for those individuals who wish to work in dance educational settings that do not require teacher certification, such as in a private studio, after school program, or other dance recreation or education type program.

Graduation Requirements
Plan GPA of 2.5 or higher. No grade lower than a C in any course applied to the minor.

Total Credits: 36-37
