Career and Technical Education Teacher Preparation Certificate
This CTE certificate program is intended for business or industry professionals who are interested in obtaining a career and technical teaching certificate, or current teachers wanting to add a CTE certificate. The program will provide the tools necessary for success in the classroom.
During the program, participants will complete two 60-hour mentored teaching experiences or practicums. The program is offered through the department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Program Requirements
- Complete all required courses with a C or higher.
- Complete two 60-hour teaching practicums.
- Document 6,000 hours occupational experience in the CTE specialty area you wish to teach (documentation verified by OSPI).
- Fingerprint clearance from both the Washington State Patrol and the FBI must be on file at the office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
- Completion of all three sections in the Washington Educator Skills Test - Basic (WEST-B). Test scores must be submitted prior to completing the program in order to receive CWU’s recommendation for career and technical education teacher certification.
- Earning a C or higher in all courses grants the individual the competencies in general and specific safety requirement.
