Literacy Minor

The literacy minor, with campus and field experiences, is designed to prepare literacy teachers and strengthen background preparation of elementary, middle, and secondary teachers. The minor is typically commenced in the junior year.

Teaching Endorsement
This minor partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in reading, qualifying students to teach reading at the high school, middle/junior high, and elementary levels. Students who successfully complete the Literacy Minor, an endorsement major and Secondary Education Program (an alternative to the Professional Education Program) are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification.  In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the minor requires concurrent enrollment in, or prior completion of, an endorsement Education major and completion of ELEM 331.

Graduation Requirements
Students must maintain a plan GPA of 3.0 or higher. No grade lower than a C in any course applied to the minor.
