Elementary Education Major, BAEd


Teacher candidates who complete this major will be endorsed to teach in regular, self-contained elementary classrooms.

Teacher Endorsement
This major partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in elementary education. Students who successfully complete the Elementary Education Program are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification. In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.

Graduation Requirements
Plan GPA of 3.0. No grade lower than a C in any course applied to the major.

Program Requirements
Many courses within the program require teacher candidates to have insurance and fingerprint clearance through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). 

Teacher candidates are expected to complete prerequisites MATH 164 and MATH 226 prior, to or concurrent with, quarter one courses and to follow the quarterly sequence offered for their designated campus location to maintain program integrity, and the scheduling plan.

MATH 164 and MATH 226 are prerequisites to full admission into the elementary education major.

Emphasis on the significance of culturally relevant educational partnerships with family, educators, and community.
