Bilingual Education Dual Language Minor

This minor prepares teacher candidates to successfully teach students in English and a partner language. Select courses will be conducted bilingually. Students must demonstrate proficiency in a partner language in order to meet the Bilingual Education Dual Language Minor requirements. This is to be demonstrated by successfully completing the required world language course and the courses delivered bilingually.

Teaching Endorsement
This minor partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in Bilingual Education, qualifying students to teach at the high school, middle/junior high, and elementary levels. Students who successfully complete the Bilingual Education Dual Language Minor, an endorsement major and the Professional Education Program (or approved alternative such as the Elementary Education Major, or the Secondary Education Major), are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification.  In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • examine policy and practice of language use in bilingual programs,
  • develop learning events supported by first and second language acquisition, learning, and critical multicultural theories,
