ATM 450 - Sustainability in the Apparel and Textile Industry Description: Explores the global environmental impact of the apparel and textile industry and sustainable practices used to minimize industry impact. Students will gain knowledge and critical perspective necessary to shift to sustainable apparel production and consumption.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: ATM 301 and ATM 430.
Credits: (4) Contact Hours: 4
Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Examine the impact of the apparel industry in societies, ecosystems and biodiversity around the world.
- Analyze sustainability of textile and apparel products from concept to end-of-life.
- Evaluate consumer’s and businesses’ environmental and social responsibilities in today’s apparel industry addressing social justice, environmental conservation, and responsible economic growth.
- Apply terminology related to sustainability in the apparel industry.
- Examine sustainable strategies in the product development process and innovation in the apparel industry.
- Develop a solution to a sustainability problem related to apparel/textiles: applying research, critical analysis and creative thinking.
