ATM 440 - Apparel Product Development


Description:
This course examines product development strategies, specifications, and technical packages using industry technology. Topics include digital imaging, database software, globalization’s impact, and management strategies in competitive product development, emphasizing emerging technologies and production processes.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: ATM 301 and ATM 430.

Credits: (4) Contact Hours: 4

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Outline the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, including its functionalities, benefits, and role in managing product development processes from concept to consumer, while developing practical skills to use these systems effectively.
  • Demonstrate how PLM systems enhance collaboration and streamline workflows across design, production, and supply chain teams.
  • Evaluate the role of PLM systems and product development strategies in supporting sustainable practices, including material selection, resource optimization, and compliance tracking.
  • Analyze how customer expectations, including fit, quality, and performance, are integrated into the product development process using PLM tools and data.
  • Assess the role of the tech pack as a central document in product development, ensuring accuracy and consistency in communicating specifications to manufactures.
  • Explore how emerging technologies, such as 3D design tools and AI-driven analytics, are integrated into PLM systems to innovate and improve the product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in industry-standard product development related tools and software.
