AST 333 - Southeast Asia and Its Diasporas Description: Exploration of region to the south of China and east of India, including its ecology, culture, geopolitics, economics, and place in the world. Investigation of Southeast Asian immigrant experience in the US and other countries. This course satisfies CWU’s ADI graduation requirement.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- define key concepts in relation to the study of Antiracism, Diversity, and Inclusivity including antiracism, racism, race, ethnicity, discrimination, privilege, diversity, equity, inclusivity, and intersectionality,
- analyze the role of race, racism, and antiracism in the United States,
- describe intersections between race and ethnicity and other minoritized identities,
- explain systematic and structural mechanisms that perpetuate both privilege and inequities,
- compare and contrast their own core values, assumptions, and biases with those held by other individuals, cultures, or societies,
- summarize historical and current events and developments that have shaped Southeast Asia,
- compare the contemporary socio-cultural and political systems of Southeast Asia demonstrating a detailed understanding of differing trajectories across Mainland and Island Southeast Asia,
- classify the relationships Southeast Asian states (including individually and under the umbrella of the supranational Association of Southeast Asian Nations - ASEAN) with China, India, the United States, and other external powers, and
- analyze the development of Southeast Asian diasporic communities around the world.
