ELEM 510 - Elementary Education Methods I: Humanities Description: Examines the structure/content of K-8 humanities curricula. Identify and practice research-based Instructional approaches across the literacy and social studies disciplines.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Differentiate literacy practices upon learners’ language background and individual needs.
- Explain how reading, writing, speaking, listening, visualizing, viewing, and thinking are integrated and are developmental processes.
- Implement research-based literacy strategy lessons using a variety of culturally relevant, print and non-print, literary and expository texts.
- Examine the writing process, its components, the effective traits, and its recursive, interactive, and collaborative nature.
- Examine a wide range of texts represented and authored by a range of cultures and ethnicities and representing both female and male protagonists and authors.
- Analyze current research for elementary social studies classroom employing professional vocabulary.
- Construct arguments with evidence.
- Assess critical attributes of key concepts used in teaching elementary social studies.
- Evaluate a contemporary civic engagement event (e.g., school board meeting, county commissioner meeting, policy report, etc.)
- Create elementary social studies activities and resources that enhance an inclusive age and grade-appropriate classroom.
