EDU 583 - Seminar II


Description:
Seminar to process, reflect upon, and enhance in-school experience. Focus on professional growth and development through the inquiry cycle. Seminar topics include contemporary issues affecting public education.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisites: admitted to Teacher Certification MAT Program and EDU 532 and EDU 572 and EDU 582 and (EDSE 502 for secondary and K-12 specialization) or (EDSE 524 for special education specialization).

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe current issues in education. [Comprehension]
  • Discuss the rules and regulations that impact teaching [knowledge]
  • Identify a range of teaching strategies to meet student learning needs-i.e., power point presentation, lead discussion and invite interaction, planned group activities, interactive web materials. [Application]
  • Document current best practices, curriculum standards, teaching plans, parent conferences, discipline logs, and other school experiences [Synthesis]
  • Analyze how various teaching methods promote learning and how different teaching methods are required to meet a hierarchy of student competencies.  [Analysis]
  • Explain the rationale for- and the components of the Washington State’s comprehensive Teacher / Principal Evaluation system (referred to as TPEP) [Comprehension]
  • Devise a plan of action to receive consistent feedback on one’s practice. [Synthesis]
  • Generate a plan of action to collect evidence relating to established goals. [Synthesis]
  • Identify potential feedback sources, for the purpose of receiving professional feedback from within and outside the student’s practicum context. Establish professional teacher goals and student growth goals as part of the education evaluation process.
