EDF 515 - Comics Literacy for Educators (Put on reserve 9/16/24, will go inactive 8/24/27) Description: Fundamental principles of graphic literacy; selecting appropriate comics for the classroom. The comics medium genre as a way to acquire, practice, and master traditional and new literacies, including visual and critical media literacy. (Put on reserve 9/16/24, will go inactive 8/24/27)

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Define the vocabulary and subgenres of the comic genre. Evaluate a variety of comic literary devices. Familiarity with blending prose and visual arts. Compare and contrast different multimodal mediums. Articulate fundamental principles of comic literacy. Distinguish among multimodal forms and theoretical structure. Categorize comic text and tiles according to literary criticism. Interpret graphic forms and their impact.
