EDCS 545 - Social-Emotional Learning in Education Description: Introduction to social-emotional learning (SEL) and how SEL is applied in classrooms and school systems.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: teaching experience.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Describe social well-being and its relationship to the current emphasis on achievement in educational reform
Identify educational theories that support SEL
Explain the ways in which school-based SEL programs differ with regard to scope, focus, audience and mode of infusion.
Examine the general considerations of the characteristics of effective programs and practices with the intent of providing participants the tools necessary to evaluate specific SEL programs.
