Explores theoretical and conceptual information related to the development of literacy abilities of linguistically diverse students and the application of related methods and techniques.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze and summarize diverse perspectives of the concept of literacy.
  • Justify the application of linguistic theory and research for the methodologies being used for literacy development in a new language. 
  • Describe research-based methods and techniques that foster the literacy development of linguistically diverse learners.
  • Select, adapt, and develop appropriate materials and instructional sequences.
  • Describe and conduct procedures and methods appropriate to the assessment of linguistically diverse readers and writers.
