CDFS 538 - Attachment Theory and Practice

Description:
Attachment theory and strategies, parenting practices to facilitate attachment, and the impact of trauma on attachment. Reviews attachment trends and research and provides practical application of attachment in work with children and families. CDFS 438 and CDFS 538 are layered courses, students may not receive credit for both.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Describe the core assumptions of attachment theory Describe the impact of separation, loss, abuse, and neglect on children’s development and attachment formation. Synthesize the empirical evidence regarding attachment formation and intervention to enhance attachment. Assess parents’ and children’s attachment strategies from an attachment theory lens. Evaluate existing attachment-based interventions using empirical evidence and theory. Propose policy changes based on attachment theory and research. Graduate: Develop a culturally-adapted attachment-based intervention. Graduate: Develop an evaluation study of an attachment-based intervention.
