EMS 476 - Critical Care Flight Paramedicine Prep Course

Description:
This comprehensive paramedicine course covers critical care treatments and scenarios in 14 major topic areas and prepares students for taking more advanced critical care certification tests (FP-c and CCT exams) for critical care transports. Permission of department.

Prerequisite: admission to the EMS Paramedicine major.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate and interpret the foundational skills of Arterial Blood Gases.
Demonstrate the proper knowledge and skills of advanced airway management.
Demonstrate the ability to interpret specific traumatic injuries, understanding pathology and treatments and assess burn management
Apply the advanced concepts of pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics of common pre-hospital medications.
Evaluate and initiate personal protective measures, ventilation/perfusion mismatch, interpreting chest x-rays and common respiratory diseases and their treatments.
Demonstrate the ability to interpret ventilator readings and adjust settings based on pathology.
Demonstrate the ability to interpret specific environmental and toxicological emergencies, understanding the pathology and treatments.
