COM 494 - Teaching Communication Description: Experiential learning of the fundamentals of teaching communication in higher education. Permission of department. May be repeated up to 4 credits.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: completion of course in which teaching or assisting is to be done and approval of department chair.
Credits: (1-4)
Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recall and use key vocabulary used in academic teaching settings.
- Execute basic tasks of academic instruction such as finding source material, evaluating exams and papers, leading discussion groups, and explaining concepts to students.
- Effectively use the key features of a course management system (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) such as publishing/unpublishing content, populating modules, uploading files, publishing class announcements, using internal email services, grading with a rubric, and entering grades.
- Summarize the principles of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, FERPA.
