EMS 346 - Mental Health First Aid Description: Learn to identify, determine, and respond to mental health issues and crises. Equip and empower yourself with the skills necessary to help in a mental health first aid situation. Formerly EMS 246; a student may not receive credit for both.
Credits: (3) Contact Hours: 2 hours lecture & 2 hours lab per week
Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- recognize and respond when someone is having a mental health crisis;
- determine the best course of action when someone is in a mental health crisis;
- differentiate between major and minor mental health issues;
- implement a positive course of action when someone is having a serious mental health issue;
- evaluate agencies to aid in mental health situations;
- identify and respond to mental health issues;
- create best practices to aid in mental health crisis;
- develop and implement a positive mental state of health; and
- demonstrate how to use de-escalation techniques to neutralize mental health crisis.
