STP 300 - Inquiry Approaches to Teaching and Lesson Design Description: In this field-based introductory course, students observe, experience, and describe essential components of effective STEM teaching in grades K-12. Students also design and teach lessons that implement essential components of content, equity, and professional practice. Course Requires liability insurance and current WSP/FBI fingerprints that do not expire before end of quarter. Formerly STP 302A, students may not receive credit for both.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: sophomore standing.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe and practice qualities of effective STEM instruction.
- Compose questions at varying levels of cognitive load to assess students’ understanding.
- Identify and write learning targets that are aligned to state and national standards through backwards design.
- Reflect on personal identity characteristics that impact teaching and learning.
- Observe and apply strategies for achieving instructional equity for all students in a diverse and digital classroom.
- Examine policies for K-12 laws and court decisions, OSPI conduct, district handbooks and/or safety manuals, and classroom/school scenarios.
- Analyze research-based teaching/management practices to create safe and effective learning environment for all students.
