AVM 332 - Aviation Legislation


Description:
History and evolution of aviation governmental regulatory agencies in the US and internationally, including FAA, ICAO, and homeland security. Agency organization and operation, and legislative acts and treaties related to enforcement of aviation standards.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: AVM 330.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • define the concept of Administrative Law and explain the need for regulations;
  • summarize the history of aviation regulation, including the events and political influences that led to the creation of the Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation; Administration, the National Transportation Board, and the Department of Homeland Security;
  • locate and describe the regulations of the aviation industry;
  • summarize the regulations of the scheduled airline industry;
  • describe the process of new aviation regulation creation and deletion;
  • evaluate and generate responses to proposed federal rules;
  • define and describe the functions of the aviation regulatory agencies; and
  • describe the process of regulation enforcement and appeals.
