Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of Earth composition and physical processes on a broad range of scales.
- Describe how geologists generate testable hypotheses to explain and predict natural hazards, including earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami and landslides.
- Describe how geologic investigation has developed over the past several centuries and analyze how it has been applied to questions related to the nature of Earth through history.
- Distinguish data from interpretation.
- Use maps and cross sections to describe and understand geological relationships.
- Make field observations and interpret these observations in terms of geological processes.
- Make inquiry-driven laboratory and field observations.
