CDFS 439 - Families and Public Policy

Description:
Impact of governmental policies on families; policy implications of changes in the structure and composition of families. Requires attendance at two events outside scheduled class time. CDFS 439 and CDFS 539 are layered courses; students may not receive credit for both. Formerly FCL/FS 439, students may not receive credit for both.

Prerequisites: CDFS 101 and CDFS 234.

Analyze the process by which policy is formulated and implemented.
Identify public policy issues relating to families at local, state, and federal levels.
Formulate and articulate ideas for changing policy to meet family needs and improve family well-being.
Advocate policy changes to policy makers as participants in the political process.
