CDFS 439 - Families and Public Policy


Description:
Impact of governmental policies on families; policy implications of changes in the structure and composition of families. Requires attendance at two events outside scheduled class time. CDFS 439 and CDFS 539 are layered courses; students may not receive credit for both. Formerly FCL/FS 439, students may not receive credit for both. 

Prerequisites:
Prerequisites: CDFS 101 and CDFS 234.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze the process by which policy is formulated and implemented.
  • Identify public policy issues relating to families at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Formulate and articulate ideas for changing policy to meet family needs and improve family well-being.
  • Advocate policy changes to policy makers as participants in the political process.
