CDFS 419 - Research in Child Development and Family Science Description: Methods of research used in studying families and relationships, including measurement, research design, ethics, sampling, and casual inference. Students will complete a research project emphasizing application of material. CDFS 419 and CDFS 519 are layered courses; students may not receive credit for both. Formerly FCL/FS 419, students may not receive credit for both.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: CDFS 101 and CDFS 234 and child development and family science major.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the importance of research in the scientific process and the benefits to the human condition.
- Apply principles of research methods in social sciences, including: sampling, design, measurement, ethics, and basic statistics.
- Evaluate causality using principles of causal inference and statistical interpretation.
- Conceptualize, design, and conduct a research study.
- Manage data, perform data analysis, and interpret results, with assistance.
- Prepare and effectively deliver a research presentation.
