ATM 420 - Consumer Textiles Description: Study of the textile industry, fibers, yarns, construction, coloration, and finishes. Includes sustainability, laws and regulations, testing, care, performance of fibers, and textile applications for consumer use. Incorporates hands-on experiences in textile characteristic identification. Formerly ATM 452 and FCSA 355, students may only receive credit for one.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze natural and manmade fibers and their production, properties, use, and care
- Synthesize how yarns and textiles are produced
- Summarize the concepts of textile processing, dyeing, and finishing
- Outline federal laws and labeling requirements pertaining to textiles
- Use textile terminology such as fiber and textile names appropriately
- Assess given materials to identify textile structures, yarn types, dyes and finishes
- Demonstrate the importance of developing a professional knowledge of textiles
