EMS 441 - General Pharmacology for Paramedics Description: Mechanism of action, indications, and contraindications of drugs, their side effects, and dosage of administration. By department permission.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: EMS 440 and admission to the paramedical major or program.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
- Demonstrate and preform medication math concepts with calculating and “drawing up” appropriate dosages for a scenario.
- Identify and recognize the common pathologies associated with various co-morbidities that may need pharmacological intervention.
- Demonstrate the ability to control basic and advanced airway, oxygenation and ventilation principles and techniques for a patient.
- Demonstrate and apply interventions for an “RSI” (OSI), with associated medications and their correct dosages.
- Demonstrate and develop an appropriate pharmacological treatment plan, based on a situation.
- Demonstrate and perform a past medical history based on prescribed medications, in a patient scenario.
- Exhibit principles and practices consistent with proper communication techniques.
