Description:
Reporting and writing, photo assignments and copy editing for the student-run campus newspaper and news website. In editorial positions: plan and produce the newspaper. May be repeated up to 24 credits.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Research and generate story ideas and develop angles pertinent to an audience of CWU students, faculty and staff.
Work in a deadline-driven environment.
Write basic news and feature stories, including effective leads, nut grafts, basic story elements and basic story structures.
Employ professional codes of ethics when dealing with ethical dilemmas pertaining to gathering and reporting news.
For students who have roles of editors only: Organize news story “play” (position, prominence, copy space, etc.) in the newspaper.
For students who have roles of editors only: Plan the production of a weekly newspaper in hard copy, online format, or both.
For students who have roles of editors only: Produce a weekly newspaper in hard copy, online format, or both.
For students who have roles of editors only: Mentor and train reporters.
