Writing, news gathering, and reporting for the electronic media. Includes on-the-scene coverage and interviewing.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: COM 226.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the guidelines and rules of broadcast news copy writing.
  • Identify news values used in reporting events.
  • Identify the beats of a typical community.
  • Construct broadcast interviews following the profession’s norms and best practices.
  • Plan and conduct on-the-scene news stories following the profession’s norms and best practices.
  • Report on speeches and meetings by applying broadcast journalism professional guidelines and best practices.
