COM 226 - Media Writing and Reporting I Description: Students will receive an introduction to writing and reporting of journalistic stories for online and print media.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the variety of ways newsrooms structure their coverage and deploy their staff.
- Write news stories with effective leads, nut graphs and story structure.
- Find ideas for news stories.
- Interview sources.
- Use observation to gather information.
- Collect appropriate documents to inform news stories.
- Identify the qualities and values that make events and trends newsworthy and the factors that determine the “play” of a story in a media outlet.
- Summarize the ethical standards and guidelines set by professional news organizations.
