AVM 250 - Air Transportation


Description:
The course broadly covers the socio-economic benefits of air transportation. It focuses on the global trends and regional challenges of air transportation including its accessibility, affordability, and safety. Formerly AVM 333; students may not receive credit for both.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the significance of air transportation to US and world economies.
  • Define General Aviation and explain its role in the aviation industry.
  • Explain the structure, characteristics, and the economic impact of U.S. Airline Industry.
  • Explain the role of Government Aviation in the aviation industry.
  • List major legislation that regulates the air transportation industry, and the explain the role regulatory agencies created by the legislation function to enhance safety and commerce.
  • Detail the effects (pros and cons) of the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 on the industry, its employees, and its customers.
  • Identify and explain the regional and global trends impacting the future of air transportation.
