AGB 380 - Human Resource Management in Food and Agribusiness


Description:
This course explores the unique aspects of strategic and effective Human Resource Management (HRM) in agribusiness, focusing on HRM techniques designed to improve agribusiness organizational teamwork, productivity, performance and enterprise success.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the activities and roles that are included in “human resource management” and explain why these activities can be the responsibility of front-line managers.
  • Describe the unique role of the HR function and of HR managers in Agribusiness
  • Review federal laws governing the recruiting, selecting, managing, and disciplining of employees and common issues with these laws found in Agribusiness industries. 
  • Discuss selection and performance appraisal techniques that are considered best practice in Agribusiness including in full-time and seasonal environments.
  • Identify and explain theories from psychology, sociology and social psychology underlying human capital selection, placement and management at both micro and macro levels.
