Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify how ableist assumptions of mobility, sensory perception, and cognition limit engagement in common life activities and environments.
- Define and recognize examples of good and poor disability etiquette.
- Distinguish between theoretical models of disability, e.g., medical, moral, social, environmental, and functional, and examine the implications of beliefs and attitudes on public and personal perceptions of and responses to disability.
- Differentiate categories and levels of disability and common barriers associated with them.
- Explain how assistive technologies are used by persons with disabilities.
- List prominent legal documents and landmark events related to disability and human rights.
- Survey careers requiring competence in troubleshooting and advocating for accessibility.
