Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degrees Offered (Majors, Minors, listed by degree)

The yearlong exploration of social sciences (YESS) is an innovative program designed to prepare students for majors and careers in the social sciences. YESS consists of an integrated sequence of classes, enrichment activities in service learning, and research opportunities. Students will explore social and community issues through the lens of a social scientist and will develop mentoring relationships with CWU social science faculty.

Students enrolled in YESS will participate in a three-quarter-long series of courses  (YESS 101, YESS 102, and YESS 103). Completion of YESS 101 and YESS 102 satisfies two general education knowledge area requirements.

Admission Requirements
Admission to YESS is by application to the program. YESS is open to students interested in pursuing a degree in the social sciences, with preference given to new first-year students and existing CWU students with fewer than 45 credits. Applications are especially encouraged from first-generation students and students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
