Economics BS, Managerial Economics Specialization

Managerial economics applies economic principles to solve common business problems. It studies how managers make decision in all aspect of business, especially in finance, marketing, accounting, supply chain and management. Managerial economists gather, manage and analyze business data to inform and evaluate business strategies. The managerial economics program is for students with a primary interest in private sector employment, and combines economics with accounting and finance courses that are useful in a business setting. This program at CWU provides a great preparation for economics, masters in business administration, finance and accounting graduate programs.

Economics Foundation

Positions of responsibility in today’s world are usually held by individuals who have the capacity to analyze complex problems and make intelligent decisions. Learning economics will help students think logically and improve their ability to use economic concepts to analyze “real-world” problems and opportunities. In addition to preparation for business and government agency employment, an economics major is an excellent preparation for law schools, Master of Business Administration programs, and graduate programs in economics, agricultural economics, and natural resource management.

Admission Requirements
Students can apply to the major as part of their application to CWU, via their MyCWU account, or by emailing CBAdvising@cwu.edu and will be approved for entry to the major once they have completed the college of business agreement to policies.

Requirements for Progression and/or Graduation

To graduate with a degree in economics, students must:

• Earn at least 45 credits at CWU and meet all CWU graduation requirements, including grade point average requirements that apply to all CWU major programs.
