History Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- identify and describe issues and events in history;
- analyze primary and/or secondary sources;
- evaluate arguments and/or evidence related to history (critical thinking);
- develop valid evidence-based arguments related to history;
- write effectively, constructing responses and essays that use correct grammar, effective sentence structure, and appropriate and complex language; and
- explain cultural differences and diverse perspectives.
Lower-Division Credits: 20
Select 20 credits from the following:
Upper-Division Credits: 39
- HIST 302 - Historical Methods Credits: (5) (Students must earn a minimum grade of C as a major requirement)
- HIST 481 - Senior Thesis Credits: (4) (Students must earn a minimum grade of C as a major requirement)
- Upper-division United States History Credits: (5)
- Upper-division Elective Credits: (25)
The elective credits must include at least 5 credits each from four of the following fields: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, World/Transcontinental
Small Plan Major (fewer than 60 credits)
This major requires the completion of a minor or second major. Please consult with the departments about any specific restrictions regarding overlap between plans.
