Family and Consumer Sciences Major, BA

The BA in family and consumer sciences comprises a general introduction to the broad areas of family and consumer sciences and, with an appropriate minor, can provide students with a well-rounded preparation for life or for further advanced study. This major requires a minor or double major.

Admissions Requirements
Students may declare upon admission or in their first quarter at CWU, otherwise students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.3 to be admitted to the major. 

Graduation Requirements
Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher for graduation.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate professional oral and written communication;
  • connect the importance of consumer behavior to apparel, fashion, and textiles;
  • apply the principles of nutrition science to the nutritional care of individuals and families;
  • apply concepts in child development, parenting, and human development as they relate to family well-being;
  • evaluate housing structures and environments for consumers;
  • create a life management plan to promote wellness for individuals and families; and
  • apply effective financial practices to individual and family units.
