Asian Studies Major, BA


The Asian Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program focusing on a region currently undergoing a dramatic economic, political, and social transformation. The program provides students with a grasp of the region’s diversity while emphasizing the interactive nature of an overarching community of nations and their global connections. Careers in international business, government service, and education can be augmented by preparation in Asian Studies. The program also serves as an excellent preparation for graduate study in various academic and professional fields.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the Asia/Pacific region’s diversity;
  • demonstrate the ability to engage the study of the Asia/Pacific region from an interdisciplinary perspective;
  • recognize and engage the interactive nature of the Asia/Pacific region and its overarching community of nations;
  • analyze and assess issues from multiple perspectives other than their own; and
  • demonstrate a working familiarity with one Asian language and recognize the importance of language in shaping culture and understanding the views of others.
