The specialization combines a liberal arts background in literature with specialized writing courses in creative writing (fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, screenwriting), business writing, professional writing, scientific and technical writing, editing, and publishing. Students in this specialization are expected to complete ENG 301 and ENG 303 prior to enrolling in other upper-division major requirements.

Approved Writing Electives - Credits: 27
Select 27 credits from a combination of creative writing, professional writing and editing, and practicum courses, at least 2 credits of which must come from a practicum course. At least one 400-level elective class is required. Creative Writing Courses:
Professional Writing and Editing Courses:
Literature, Language, and Film Studies Courses - Credits: 15
Select 15 credits of literature, language, and film studies (including foreign language film studies) courses at or above the 300 level. No more than 5 credits of film studies may be counted as elective credits in the Writing Specialization.
