CMGT 346 - Construction Methods and Materials


Description:
MIntroduction to materials and methods commonly used in general construction focusing on building construction soils, concrete, masonry components, wood products, structural steel, thermal and moisture protection, enclosures, exterior and interior finishes, and other specialty items. CMGT 346 and CMGT 347 are equivalent courses; students may not receive credit for both.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: CMGT 265.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze methods, materials, and equipment used to construct projects along with commonly used construction products in general construction including structural soils, concrete, masonry components, wood products, structural steel, thermal & moisture protection, enclosures, exterior and interior finishes, and other specialty items. ACCE SLO #8
  • Identify the basic methods of steel & wood framing used in light construction on a construction site.
  • Identify typical building construction materials used including their properties, advantages, disadvantages and installation.
  • Accurately research a selected topic and write a five to seven-page research paper on this topic, including a bibliography.
  • Create oral presentations appropriate to the construction discipline by efficiently researching, preparing, and delivering a 8-minute oral presentation on an assigned topic, including proper use of visual aids, to a group of peers. ACCE SLO #2
