CMGT 343 - Construction Estimating I with Laboratory


Description:
Quantity surveying and bid preparation for general construction. Use of cost handbooks, specifications, and bid documents. Three hours of lecture and one hour of practice/lab. Permission by instructor. 

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: CMGT 265.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the quantity takeoff and analysis process to create construction project cost estimates.
  • Use electronic-based technology to perform quantity take-offs, estimate, and manage the construction process.
  • Reference safety items, understand how safety concerns are addressed at the jobsite and planned
  • Develop construction management skills necessary to work as a member of an estimating team
  • Create and utilize spreadsheets for construction quantity takeoffs, construction labor estimates, and preparation of an estimate.
  • Discuss and analyze basic concepts on construction ethics in estimating.
  • Develop and utilize computer-based spreadsheets for quantity take-off, labor estimates, and preparation of a parametric estimate in a laboratory setting.
