HIST 459 - Childhood and Youth in African History


Description:
This course explores the historical experiences and impacts of children and youth in modern Africa. HIST 459 and HIST 559 are layered courses; students may not receive credit for both.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of key principles of the history of childhood
  • Distinguish how children and youth experience and impact historical dynamics
  • Analyze primary and secondary sources
  • Explain how children and youth created and reflected different cultural norms and practices in Africa
  • Graduate level: Demonstrate understanding of the historiography of the field, identifying key questions and methods in the literature on children and youth in Africa
