EDSE 460 - Collaboration with Parents, Paraprofessionals, and Community Agencies


Description:
Designed to emphasize skills necessary for collaborative relationships in the team process, including collaboration with other teachers, families, paraprofessionals, administration, and community agencies. A practical field experience is included in this course.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: EDSE 310.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student/teacher candidate will be able to:

  • Evaluate services and roles of professionals who work within schools and other community agencies who contribute to individual student programs for students with disabilities.
  • Plan effective ways to interact with parents that foster respectful and beneficial relationships between families and professionals.
  • Examine team roles, interaction, communication, team building, problem solving, conflict resolution, and stress management.
  • Identify strategies to strengthen the teacher/general education/paraprofessional team to include and accommodate individuals with disabilities into various settings
