EDSE 432 - Strategies for Working with Students with Low Incidence Disabilities Description: Designed to introduce teacher candidates to research-based strategies necessary for effective instruction for students with low incidence disabilities. Implementation of research-based strategies will be included in a clinical field experience.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: EDSE 310.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student/teacher candidate will be able to:
- Analyze evidence- based practices for teaching students with low-incidence disabilities to support adaptive, social, emotional, behavioral, communication, and independent living skills.
- Create a plan for the inclusion of a student with low-incidence disabilities into a general education setting that ensures a safe, equitable, positive learning environment and encourages self-advocacy, self-determination, and increased independence.
- Apply knowledge of a student’s Individualized Education Program to create functional goals for independent living and post-secondary outcomes.
- Develop instructional content, resources, and strategies that are aligned with IEP goals and respond to cultural, linguistic, and gender differences.
- Identify local, state, and national organizations that support the transition of young adults with low-incidence disabilities to independent living, employment and/or post-secondary education.
