EDSE 422 - Teaching Strategies, Curriculum, and Materials for Students with Exceptionalities


Description:
Individual, small, and large group teaching strategies essential to individualized education programs, and selection, evaluation, and adaptation of commercially available materials, including computer applications.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: EDSE 310.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the characteristics of various exceptionality areas and evidence-based instructional strategies to meet specific needs such as adaptive, social, emotional, behavioral, communication and independent living skills.
  • Identify types of assistive technology to be utilized in the instructional process of students ranging from pre-school to grade 12.
  • Create an instructional plan with assessments that aligns with the general education curriculum and meets the unique needs of a diverse learner.
  • Develop  a unit of instruction which addresses the four phases of learning; acquisition, fluency, maintenance, and generalization.
  • Demonstrate direct instruction teaching strategies through the use of task analysis development.
