Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student/teacher candidate will be able to:

State the importance of qualitative and quanatitative reading research, the history of the teaching of reading and best practices of reading instruction
State the nature of reading comprehension and factors that affect a reader’s comprehension.
Demonstrate knowledge of how culture, language, dialect, and ethnic diversity among learners can positively influence comprehension development.
State the importance of assessing and evaluating student’s comprehension and how the information gathered affects planning for instruction to meet student needs.
Develop a repertoire of instructional strategies to promote and teach comprehension skills with a variety of learners/texts.
Identify and use technology appropriately as related to comprehension
State how vocabulary development impacts comprehension
