HIST 549 - Transnational History of Latinx People in the US Description: This course explores the movement of people, culture, knowledge, and capital from Latin America and Caribbean to the U.S., using a transnational approach, with an emphasis on the twentieth-century. HIST 449 and 549 are layered courses, cross-listed with LLAS 449; students may only receive credit for one.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: graduate standing or instructor permission.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze significant issues, trends and developments in the history of Latinxs in the US and transnational history.
- Demonstrate knowledge that history is not simply the recitation of names and dates, but is a fluid subject where interpretations are constantly changing as a result of different methods or patterns of analysis.
- Analyze and synthesize primary and secondary sources in order to put forward well-supported arguments.
- Make a clearly-written and clearly-presented argument, including a thesis and sufficient and well-used supporting evidence.
- Identify differing explanations of historical change and the connections between cause and effect in the discipline of history.
- Analyze the relationship between Latinx people living in the US, Latin America, and the Carribean
- Analyze the historiography regarding transnational approaches to history and how those approaches apply to the histories of Latinx people in the US (HIST 549 only)
